Working hard for Wakefield

Local Footie Hero

It was a pleasure to meet with Shani Abassi, a young footballer from Wakefield who has been selected to play for the Pakistan national team in the South Asian Championship.

Shani told me about his amazing journey from being a young boy kicking a football around in College Grove, to playing for the Pakistan national football team. With the support of friends, family, Ossett Town AFC and Lightwaves leisure centre he honed his skills and reached the top.

I was also impressed by Shani’s determination to give something back to Wakefield and to support the next generation of local footballers. Everyone in  Wakefield will be proud of his success and we all wish him well in the South Asian Championship – and beyond!
